Wave Glider Hermes recovery

Wave Glider on board Diplodus

Thursday morning, May 29th, around 5.45 am, we went to Faro. Once there we catched the train to Olhão, where Diplodus is docked. After lunch we borded Diplodus and headed to the location of the last position of the Wave Glider, nearly 10NM off the coast. The sighting was easy at distance yet his collection was not so much. The first attempt failed, but by the second attempt we managed to collect the Wave Glider. On coming ashore, Diplodus crew dropped 4 nets for the study of fish by IPMA’s biologists.

On land, it was time to prepare the WG for transport. Despite the reduced warehouse space and little "human power", only Joel Gomes and João Fortuna, with the help of Captain Daniel, WG was put inside the shipping box. With this was already 21.00. We caught the last train to Faro to take a shower and have dinner. :)
